Which Plants Attract Luck? Which Push It Away?

Have you ever walked into a room filled with plants and instantly felt calm, grounded—even a little uplifted? It’s not just your imagination. Certain plants are believed to bring money, health, and positive energy, while others can unknowingly drain your space.

As someone who grew up in a home where my grandmother swore by “money plants” and avoided cacti like they carried a curse, I’ve seen the energy shift that greenery can bring. And over the years, I’ve curated a list of 8 lucky plants to attract money and good health—and 6 unlucky plants to avoid—based on cultural wisdom, personal experience, and holistic belief systems that are respected across Canada, the USA, and worldwide.

Let’s get growing.

Lucky Plants to Attract Money and Good Health

These are not just plants like lucky bamboo that you see on Pinterest boards—they’re powerful, symbolic, and (bonus!) easy to care for.

1. Lucky Bamboo

This one’s a universal favourite. It’s believed to bring wealth, peace, and harmony, especially when placed in the southeast corner of your home or office. Plus, it’s one of the lowest-maintenance plants around.

2. Jade Plant

With its plump, coin-shaped leaves, the jade plant is a must for attracting prosperity. Popular in American and Canadian households, it’s often placed near the entryway to welcome financial abundance.

3. Peace Lily

Beyond its aesthetic beauty, the peace lily is known for cleansing the air and soothing emotional energy. It’s associated with harmony, balance, and health—perfect for bedrooms and meditation corners.

4. Money Plant (Pothos)

This fast-growing vine isn’t just decorative. According to Feng Shui and Vastu, pothos helps maintain the flow of wealth when kept in water or hanging pots. Avoid placing it in bathrooms or near clutter.

5. Areca Palm

This tropical beauty symbolizes fresh beginnings and better relationships. It purifies air and adds elegance to any room, making it a staple in modern American and Canadian interiors.

6. Orchid

Apart from representing fertility and elegance, orchids boost love, serenity, and creative energy. They’re often placed in bedrooms and living rooms for emotional upliftment.

7. Aloe Vera

More than just a medicinal plant, aloe vera is considered to absorb negative vibes. It’s known to promote good fortune and protect against bad energy—especially when kept near windows.

8. Tulsi (Holy Basil)

A revered herb in Indian homes, Tulsi is now gaining popularity in North America for its spiritual and air-purifying properties. It’s believed to bring spiritual clarity, health, and protection from disease.

6 Unlucky Plants You Should Remove

Here’s where you need to be careful. Not all greenery is good greenery. These bad luck plants you should remove could unknowingly block positivity.

1. Cactus (with sharp thorns)

While beautiful in a desert-chic way, traditional energy systems believe that cactus thorns emit sharp negative energy. Best kept outside or far from high-energy zones like bedrooms and living rooms.

2. Bonsai Trees

Although miniature trees are aesthetic, they symbolize stunted growth. For homes focused on growth, abundance, and flow, they might send the wrong signal—especially near offices or work desks.

3. Dead or Wilted Plants

Obvious, but important. Withering plants represent stagnation, decay, and broken energy cycles. If you can’t revive it, it’s time to compost it.

4. Tamarind Tree

In Vastu, the tamarind plant is said to attract negative energies and is avoided near living areas. Though rare indoors, small tamarind saplings are sometimes sold as exotic plants. Be cautious.

5. Cotton Plants

They may look rustic and artistic, but cotton is believed to drain wealth and slow energy flow. Best to keep this one out of your money corners.

6. Milky Sap Plants (like Euphorbia)

If your plant emits a white, sticky sap, it could be one to reconsider. Milky sap is often linked to toxicity and is seen as inauspicious in multiple cultures.
